Speeches-week 3

When the invisible man was released from the hospital he journeyed back to the Men's House; but on his way back a lady, Mary Rambo, noticed how week he was. She tended to him and built him strong again. Mary was a very wise and  intuitive woman that has had a life full of experiences with all variations of people. She started questioning the invisible man "what you plan to make out of yourself" (254); he replied "I don't know now" (254). Without holding back Mary replied "well whatever it is, I hope it's something that's a credit to the race" (255). She offers inspiration by encouraging "you young folks what's going to make the changes" (255) and "it's the ones from the South that's got to do it" (255). It shows her wisdom by foreshadowing the ability that the invisible man contains to better the future and how to change the world. Moving from the Men's House to Mary's house was a transition in the invisible man's life. He is no longer attached to his past illusions and sees the brutal realities of the daily life. Their conversation foreshadows how the invisible man was reborn and how he "might make something out of yourself" (255).

  1. 6-Would have been a 7 with organization and analysis; however, the content does not clearly link to the element of speeches.
